Happiness – March 13, 2010

Happiness – March 13, 2010

In the afternoon I watched

The she-bear; she was looking

For the secret bin of sweetness-

Honey..

Maybe she grew full, or sleepy, or maybe

A little drunk…

And began to hum and sway.

I saw her lift her honeyed muzzle

Into the leaves, and her thick arms,

As though she would fly-

An enormous bee

All sweetness and wings-

Down into the meadows, the perfection

Of honey suckle and roses and clover-

To float and sleep in the sheer nets

Swaying from flower to flower

Day after shining day.

The bear turns into a bee and floats in interconnected nets.

We turn into being and happiness in the web of existence-

Caught, floating, flying.

What causes you to be sleepy or intoxicated with life?

  1. I have thought a lot about this one. At first I thought of settings like floating in the ocean or watching clouds go past.

But happiness is when I am with one of my children and their family. Even being separated by great distance for long periods of time, there is an automatic falling into similar thinking and doing again. A comfort level is obtained with only them. The grandchildren and in-laws seemed to have learned it, too. The ultimate is to have all three families together. Just watching them all interact well with each other is a mother's heaven. I know why the tradition of the gathering at the elder's house for Sunday dinner when families live closer together is so important. A reconnecting and sharing incidents of the past week is so important. We can still connect by telephone, but being together is the best.
